HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR DOCTOR Choose a dermatologist who has extensive experience implanting Ultrasoft. Although complications are rare, doctors who have been implanting Ultrasoft or similar products for many years, have more experience and fewer complications than those doctors who implant Ultrasoft sporatically. Dr. Kaplan was one of the first doctors in Los Angeles to implant Ultrasoft. He has taught his techniques to other doctors, and has been a guest lecturer on skin implants throughout the country.
Safety
The Ultrasoft facial implant is made of a soft flexible material with a 20 year history of safety. This material has been used by more than 3 1/2 million people for a large number of purposes, such as vascular grafts.
Unlike silicone, which can be dangerous, Ultrasoft is inert, and completely safe. In addition, it is easily removed, if at any point in the future, you wish your lips to return to their thinner, wrinkled state. By comparison, silicone is permanent and not removeable.

Ultrasoft is able to decrease facial lines and wrinkles by providing skin support underneath the wrinkle. Its unique hollow design allows your body's own tissue to grow into the hollow portion, and hold the implant in place. When we are younger, our lip margin has a firm ridge that separates the pink of the lip from the skin above the lip. Ultrasoft re-creates this ridge.

How Is It Done and Does It Hurt?
Ultrasoft implants need only local anesthesia, just two small injections of lidocaine. It takes 15 minutes per lip, and requires just two small incisions at the corners of the mouth. These incisions are 2 mm (less than 1/10^th of an inch) inside the corners of the mouth. They are hidden during the 3 days it takes for them to heal, and are usually not visible thereafter.
What To Expect Following Treatment
There is normally some swelling following the procedure, which can be quite noticeable for a few days. There is rarely bruising. Pain is usually not a problem and is well-controlled with Tylenol. Initially, you will be able to feel the implant under your skin, although others will not notice that a procedure has been done. Over the next month, the implant will continue to soften, and you will become less aware of it in your lip.
Can Men Have This Done Also?
Men also develop thinning and wrinkling of lips as they get older. Many men, as well as women, have benefited from Ultrasoft implants.
